Sometimes, we try to save money on electric bills, and even though we are doing everything we can, they are still skyrocketing. When we can’t find out why the electric bills stay so high, one of the common reasons are the leaks you have in your doors and windows.

Today, we’re going to see how to seal doors and windows, and the best part, help you save money. By this time, you should be asking yourself how this can happen. The infiltration of the cold air in the house cools down the space and makes the heating system work more.

Windows

Outside moldings: Inspect around the windows for damaged or missing caulking. To fix that, use a good-quality exterior calk and seal any gaps you find.

Check old windows: Windows with traditional glazing putty that holds the panes in the frames can crack and fall out with time. If you have windows in this way, reglaze them that have missing glazing putty.

Windows track: Inspect the windows track and check that it doesn’t have any debris on the track.

Locking mechanisms: Inspect if they are working perfectly, and if not, fix and switch whatever it needs.

Doors

Inspect caulking: Look around the doors and if needed, apply a new exterior caulking.

Weatherstripping: Inspect and check if there are any failed weatherstripping around the doors and replace them if necessary.

Check air leaks: This serves windows and doors, and if you find dome leaks in the house, make sure to cover them.

Now you guys have a little more knowledge of what to do in your homes this winter. Keep following our blog to learn more.
