Do you think we are done with the winterization of the house? The good news is, we’re not! For the house to be in the best condition for the winter, it’s important to follow all the steps. This way, when the cold arrives, you can stay warm inside, just relaxing, and knowing your house doesn’t have any issues.
Insulation
Wintertime is when you should do basic insulation. If your house needs a lot of insulation work, you should call a professional to inspect it and wait until it gets warmer to do it. However, there are some easy areas you can insulate now, let’s see!
Hot water heater: Insulate it with a blanket that you can easily find in hardwork stores.
Exterior outlets and switch plates: If they don’t come with a cover, you can use inexpensive foam to cover them.
Fireplace: if you are not using it to heat up the house in the winter, you should seal it. This way, if there is any leak, you can avoid the cold air that comes inside through the chimney. In case you want to use the fireplace, just remove whatever you use to cover it.
It is important to seal windows and doors, but we are going to talk about this later, keep following our blog.
Inspect the roof
Inspect the roof to see if there are any problems. However, if you don’t feel comfortable doing that by yourself, the best option is to hire a professional to do the job.
Inspect the shingles: Check if it has any missing or damaged shingles, and if you find some, replace them.
Inspect the flashing: Check the flashing around chimneys or other areas in the roof, because they are usually the source of leaks. Fix them immediately.
Inspect gutters: We are always reminding you guys to do that, because it’s when you can have a lot of trouble. In the winter, clean the leaves and debris, as they can freeze if you leave them there and damage the whole structure.
So, now you have a lot of work to do around the house. Always keep in mind, if you cannot do it by yourself, hire a professional that can help you with the work. You want to solve the house problems, not create more problems for yourself. Keep following our blog because the winter checklist is not done yet.
