Watching your home go from the paper and take shape is very exciting in the construction process, feeling your dream becoming true. The framing phase is really important, because it is the base of the project. If it is not put together correctly, you can have some issues, like the floor can squeak when you walk on it, the doors will not close well, or worse, the drywall will not lie flat.

When building, we want to make sure we choose the right construction for the project, and the uncertainties about wood or steel framing always appear. To help you make a fully informed decision, we are going to show you the difference between the types of construction and their benefits.

Wood framing

The costs for wood framing are cheaper in the short term, and if you are looking for a budget-friendly construction, this is for you. Another great advantage is that the lead time for wood framing is faster than steel — they are easier to cut, the insulation capacity is high, and it uses less-expensive fasteners than the steel.

Steel framing

This type of construction is more expensive when building, but the maintenance costs are lower than wood framing, and the scrap during building is reduced, which means lower disposal costs. The good news here is steel framing is 100% recyclable and can withstand natural forces, like earthquakes, high winds, heavy snow, and hurricanes better than wood.

Knowing the specificities of each type of frame, you should consider the location where you are building, the weather, natural forces, and your budget. At the end of the day, this information will determine the best option for your project.
