The deck is a nice part of the house to enjoy in the warmer days. However, with the right maintenance, you can keep your deck safe from the winter, and when summer is back, you can have fun outside without concerns.
Today, we are going to look at 6 steps to maintain your deck.
- Time to clean up!
Like the advice we gave for the roof, it is important to clean the gutters from your deck, if you have them there. Clean up the planters as well, you can put them in the garage or under the deck. To finalize, put away your furniture or cover them and store in an appropriate area.
- Clean up debris
It is very important to keep your deck without debris. So, scrub it down to keep it clean, because the debris can deteriorate your deck.
- Remove mold and mildew
During the winter, the moisture facilitates the growth of mold and mildew in between the tight parts of the boards, so it is important to clean it off at the first sign.
- Apply water repellent seal
That will fill your cracks with a coat that will keep the moisture and ice far from the board. The good news is that in the spring, your deck will look like new!
- Remove the snow
The snow on your deck can cause damage to the wood. Remove it in the same direction the boards are to not damage them. Also, don’t use salt or any product to melt the ice because this can discolor and damage the board.
These were simple steps to take to keep your deck safe this winter. Keep following our blog to learn more!
