Choosing the right floor for each part of the house makes a huge difference when you are building, not just to look good but for the functionalities of the spaces. Different types of materials for flooring are used in specific rooms. For example, tiles are best for kitchens and bathrooms, but stained wood would be the best option for the living room and dining room.

Matching the floor with the decoration in the house is also necessary, so it’s important to decide on what’s right for each area so that it meets your expectations when it comes to preference and budget.

The alternatives we’re showing here are going to be divided into three main areas: kitchen, bathroom, and living room.

Kitchen

Everybody loves the kitchen, it is the heart of the house! It’s a place where all families get together, hang out, receive guests, and have parties, especially if you have an open concept kitchen. Check out our article “Pros and cons of an open-plan kitchen”.

A space that has a constant circulation of people and food should be one of the most important places to think about the flooring, given the mess it will have.

Choosing a tile that is waterproof and not slippery is very important, particularly if you have kids. The most appropriate types used in kitchens are ceramic tile, natural stone, linoleum, and wood that has been treated to be waterproof.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are naturally humid areas. Consider choosing a tile that can withstand this every day. You also can choose natural materials to bring a touch of earth to your bathroom like limestone or the ever-popular granite. If you want to upgrade your bathroom and turn it into a spa, check out our post How to Turn Your Bathroom Into a Spa.

Living Areas

The living areas, like the living room, dining room and bedrooms are places where you have more freedom to choose various types of flooring. Options include hardwood, tile, or stone, and you can add some rugs to make it more comfortable for your feet. Another alternative is carpet, which has many colors and textures on the market.

Consider choosing what is functional for the area you’re applying the flooring, what matches the decoration you’re selecting for the house, and last but not least, what fits best in your budget. This way, you will have the best option for your home.
