Hello, everybody! We already know that we gave some tips here on what to do to your home in the fall. However, we are still inspired by this coming season, and we are going to give you more advice about how to prepare your house for this time. Grab your coffee or a hot chocolate, and keep reading.

First, let’s begin with the systems:

  • It’s time to clean and replace the filters of your heating system or furnace. Hire a licensed inspector to check your gas heating and furnace, and your hvac system as well. Checking with a professional, you will go through the wintertime and not be concerned with possible problems.
  • Check the attic to make sure the insulation is installed properly. When it’s well installed, the heat will stay inside, and you won’t have problems with the moisture that usually gets in the walls when the insulation is not correctly fixed.
  • If you use a steam system for heating, it’s important to do the maintenance in the tank as well.

Check safety devices:

  • Check the expiration date of your fire extinguisher and replace it if needed. If you don’t usually have one at home, you should buy one as soon as possible!
  • Test the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and see if they are working well. If needed, replace them or the batteries.
  • Check if your house has radon, the level acceptable by the Environmental Protection Agency is lower than 4. Hire a qualified contractor to fix any issue you have with radon.

Another great update to do in your house is to add weatherstripping around the frames in your windows and door, which will help keep the heat inside the house and cut energy costs.
